The first ELT conference at Izmir Katip Çelebi University took place on September 14th, 2014, when six colleagues in the School of Foreign Languages presented their research. Vildan Sakarkaya talked about the value of using pair and group work. Kevser Özdemir presented on enhancing a learner-centred classroom. Ezgi Çetin illustrated how to develop error-correction when teaching pronunciation. Çiler İnan showed how to create a learner-centred classroom environment. Sevil Gülbahar presented on learner perceptions of L1 use. All six studies appear in ‘Teacher-Researchers in Action’ (IATEFL Publications, 2015; eds: Dikilitaş, Trotman and Smith). The plenary speaker on the day was Steve Darn (Oxford University Press).
